Week 14: Photo Album

I took some time this week to look back on some of my film photos from the summer and start putting them together into an album! Shared here are a few of my favourite spreads.

Making photo albums, especially with film photos, reminds me of my grandma. She had albums on albums, going from when she was a little girl to some time in the last 10 years. She often included captions or stories with some of the photos, and it was really cool to get the backstory to an already-interesting photo.

I looked through all of her albums this summer, and it was a beautiful way to see (literal) snapshots of her life. I learned a lot about her through those photos, and was reminded of stories that she told me or that I was told about her.

I love the idea of making a physical album of meaningful photos and cool memories to look back on myself, and maybe for someone else to look at in the future and see all the fun things I got to do. I really appreciate digital photos, and how easy technology makes it to share fun experiences and memories with other people. And, importantly, the fact that I can back up my photos and (probably) never lose them. But to me, it’s still not quite the same experience as a physical album that I can flip through.

This album will always be a work in progress, and I will continue to add to it as I keep exploring and take more photos.
